WHAT ARE THE RESPONSILBILITIES OF THE POSITION?
This position is responsible for providing paralegal support on a variety of matters to a team of attorneys and senior paralegals in the Mutual Fund Law unit. Hartford Fundsâ legal team supports all areas of its business, including the investment adviser, product, sales and marketing, operations and finance functions. The responsibilities will vary depending on the business needs and may be modified as necessary from time to time.
Responsibilities will include:
Conducting legal research on state insurance and federal securities laws
Assist with preparation of product filings with the SEC
Work independently and with other team members to support a diverse client base
Coordinate with business areas to gather necessary documents and other information to prepare and file reports required by regulatory agencies
Assist in drafting and maintenanc! e of prospectuses, and other disclosure documents
Maintaining knowledge of trends in the industry and familiarity with relevant statutes, regulations, case law, and other legal requirements and guidelines.
Assist with and work on additional tasks as assigned
ABOUT THE HARTFORD'S LAW DEPARTMENT:
The Hartford's Law Department consists of approximately 600 people including 170 lawyers, reporting to the Executive Vice President & General Counsel. The Department provides legal and compliance advice to all of The Hartford's businesses is responsible for legislative and other government affairs activities and supports the Company's Board of Directors. Qualifications
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
Recommended minimum of 3 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree. A paralegal certificate is a plus but not required.
Legal research skills including the use of Westlaw/Lexis and the Internet required.
Familiarity with securities regulatory compliance issues.
Familiarity with filings with the SEC
Demonstrates excellent problem solving skills and sound judgment.
Demonstrated ability and success in an environment with changing priorities.
A team player with excellent customer service, communication, and mastery in planning and organization.
Individual must possess a high level of initiative and be a self-st! arter, self-directed, highly motivated, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
Must be detail-oriented and able to work on multiple assignments simultaneously. Efficiency and ability to prioritize are essential.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Excellent spelling, punctuation, grammar, and written communication skills.
