Penn State Law seeks a dynamic and creative Director of Career Planning & Development to help aspiring lawyers achieve their professiona! l goals and dreams while working in a beautiful setting, surrounded by supportive faculty, administration, and career services colleagues. Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Career Planning & Development and based in University Park (State College) PA, the Director will implement a career advising and counseling program for J.D. students, LLM students, and law school alumni. The Director will also have responsibility for outreach to constituencies both within and outside of the Law School and the University.

Specific duties include: Developing relationships with the student body and providing one-on-one counseling on all issues related to career development. Contributing to the strategic direction of the Career Planning office and developing creative strategies for improving the office’s services. Building and nurturing relationships with current and prospective employers in a wide range of regional, national, and international legal settings. Creating, o! verseeing, and delivering small and large workshops aimed at p! roviding students with information on diverse topics related to their career development.

Expanding opportunities for students with an international focus, including both JD students interested in working abroad as well as LL.M. students interested in working in the United States. This job will be filled as a level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience.

Typically requires a Master's degree or higher in Counseling Psychology, Counselor Education, Student Affairs, Higher Education or a related discipline plus five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. A J.D. or LL.B.

degree from an accredited law school preferred. A background in career services, legal recruiting, and/or sales and marketing. Experience working in international markets and providing placement opportunities for international students in the United States. Strong computer skills, including proficiency with presentation and database software and demonstrated aptit! ude utilizing social media.

A strong network of contacts among! legal employers. Excellent writing and oral communication skills, high energy, creative thinking, and strong interpersonal skills. Knowledge and understanding of the market for legal talent in multiple geographic regions. Demonstrated ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds as well as an understanding of the unique challenges faced by international students.

Work-related travel may be necessary. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
