The impact you'll make:
The Election Research team collects and standardizes information on how voting works - how to register, how to vote, and when and where elections are happening. Streamlining democracy in this way requires quite a bit of knowledge: what form you use to register to vote in Wyoming, to whom you mail your absentee ballot application in Maine, and whether there's an election taking place in Oklahoma RIGHT NOW (There probably is!). This information is used by various consumers, both internal and external, including TurboVote and How To Vote.
As a part of the team, you will:
- Learn the ins-and-outs of election rules across 50 states, and apply that big-picture understanding to the smallest details of elections happening across the country
- Use state election websites, phone calls, emails, and Google alerts to track elections
- Build relationships with state and local election officials
- With support from other researchers, perform quality assurance checks on collected data
- Keep internal stakeholders apprised of deadlines, progress, and roadblocks
- Participate in data collection and maintenance for our programs
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to respond to data errors
- Create and maintain documentation on election processes
- Track federal and state legislation
You are:
- Extremely organized and attentive to detail
- A skilled communicator who is comfortable answering questions on the fly dealing with the unexpected, and who takes pride in translating complex information to a variety of audiences.
- Able to build relationships and be diligent in following up on conversations and commitments
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team
- Good at managing competing priorities
- Process oriented; e.g. adept at formatting data according to a set specification
- Capable of handling moderately technical details on basic level of American politics, elections, and/or election administration, given sufficient background materials and support
No prior experience is required for this role.
