KEY OBJECTIVE:
The Lead Underwriter for Global Accident and Sickness (GA&S) is responsible for the management of growth and profitability as well as the operational activities of the Profit Center. This senior role in the division will be responsible for the development and execution of strategy and business plans of the Profit Center and the autonomy to execute. The role will also be responsible for the management and development of critical staff.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIE! S:
Strategy
- Growth Strategies â" In! coordination with Division President, head of Field Operations and National Sales Manager, helps establish, monitor, and execute business plans and strategies including implementation of non-traditional distribution channels for GA&S products as identified through 2014 Planning Process.
Financial & Data Management
- Metrics - Achieve all key metrics of the Profit Center plan including production, underwriting profit and expense plan.
- Manage Plan, Forecast and Closing â" Monitors key performance indicators through our financial reporting periods to ensure all financial entries are identified, tracked and recorded. Identifies potential issues with Plan or Forecast achievement along with a strategy to address them. Ensures Profit Center closes each financial period with maximum efficiency and effectiveness. Continuously works towards more streamlined ways to manage Profit Center forecast and closing ac! tivities to ensure accuracy and minimize administrative workload on underwriting staff.
- Liaison â" A key liaison with internal partners â" financial and actuarial â" to ensure that internal partnerâs goals are understood and implemented by Profit Center. Coordinates collaboration and refinement of forecasting and planning process.
- Receivables â" Works with financial and program services to ensure GA&S receivables are efficiently managed and resolved. Ensures that Profit Center metrics are tracked consistently and trends are recognized. Metrics include, but are not limited to, Quote Ratios (S/Q, S/B, Q/B on premium and count), Renewal Retention (premium, count), results by premium band, by producer, by region, by underwriter, target account strategy, stewardship meetings, direct meetings, policy issuance standards, customer service standards, etc. Identifies potential issues and opportunities with an explanation for each and develops a plan of action ! to minimize (or maximize) impact to business unit. In addition, identif! ies areas where additional metrics should be established and works to establish those metrics.
- Tracker â" Ensures that the ACE internal underwriting production system, Tracker, reflects actual forecast and actual results. Works with internal partners (finance, underwriting, operations) to reconcile differences. Works toward refinement of system to lessen redundancies.
- Workload â" Will periodically review underwriter workload with Division President and CUO to ensure that division is achieving maximum efficiency in GA&S underwriter production.
Underwriting Integrity - Achieving all underwriting standards as outlined by Home office and all applicable Underwriting Guidelines, Authorities, and Position Papers. This includes Risk Selection, Pricing, Terms and Conditions.
- Referrals â" Coordinates and participates in the referral process for Profit Center. Approves risks falling outside of local underwriter au! thority. Works with Division President and CUO to detect trends in referrals or market conditions that should lead to a change in underwriter guidelines, authorities or generate training opportunities.
- Renewal Timelines â" Ensures that renewals are engaged within timeframes set forth by management. Ensures that renewals are completed within guidelines and managed through completion.
- Efficiencies â" Works with internal partners to continually develop efficiencies in the underwriting process.
- Large Producer Management â" Further develops relationship between ACE and key Producers/Clients of the Profit Center.
- Client Service â" In collaboration with Division President and internal partners, maintains a Producer/Client service dialogue to meet/exceed the needs of Producers and Clients.
- Will lead, direct and have full management acc! ountability for operational and underwriting staff in Philadelphia and ! home Office CMP unit, as well as Field Offices including an emphasis on talent management and development.
This leadership role will require:
- College degree â" Finance or Business Management preferred
- 12-15 years of Accident and Health underwriting or operational experience with the ability to demonstrate leadership, initiative and influence management skills
- Heavy focus on metrics and metric driven strategy
- High level of business acumen
- Strong Management skills and proven experience
Strong project management skills
- Accident and Health product knowledge including exposures, forms, coverages, rating principals and mechanics
- Experience with Broker Relations & Customer Management
- Proven analytical ability to evaluate and judge underwriting risks
- Excellent communication, organizational and neg! otiation skills
- Ability to work within a dynamic and challenging environment â" handle multiple priorities â" often under tight deadlines
- Ability to adapt effectively with varying market conditions, responsibilities and people in a changing environment
- Strong sense of accountability for self and staff
- Travel â" 25%
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access)
