This position is part of the Lyndon Economic opportunity AmeriCorps Program (LEAP). LEAP is a state AmeriCorps program that places members with non-profit organizations throughout the Northeast Kingdom (NEK) of Vermont to support those organizations in expanding services that many communities rely on. LEAP members provide direct service in the form of educational programming to PreK-12 Youth in STEM subject areas and early literacy projects. LEAP supports their members through trainings and professional development opportunities throughout their service term. Position dependent upon LEAP federal funding. Green Mountain Farm-to-School (GMFTS) is a nonprofit organization promoting the health and well-being of Vermont's children, farms and communities by providing programs to connect schools and farms through food and education. In the 2023-2024 academic year, GMFTS aims to serve school communities in the Northeast Kingdom (NEK) of Vermont with school gardens, educational programming and fresh local farm foods, benefiting over 5,000 students. This is a Full-Time, 11-month AmeriCorps position and requires completion of 1700 hours for an average of 37 hours per week. Member will receive a living allowance of $22,100 (pre-tax) and an education award of $7,395 (pre-tax) upon successful completion of service. Other benefits include federal school loan forbearance and various training opportunities.
Member Duties : The primary responsibilities of the AmeriCorps Farm-to-School Coordinator will be to develop, grow, present, and evaluate GMFTS’ Farm-to-School Programs. This is a half-time year-long AmeriCorps position. The Farm-to-School Coordinator reports to the Farm to School Program Manager. Essential Functions: •Develop & maintain relationships with GMFTS partners •Serve as the primary contact for 3-5 schools •Create lesson plans for programming & maintain educational materials •Deliver GMFTS educational programs & events including taste tests, field trips, workshops & special events •Plant, maintain, & harvest school gardens •Design outreach & publicity materials •Report data for program evaluation •Work closely with staff, parents, food service directors, & farmers •Facilitate Farm-to-School Committee meetings •Serve as an independent member of a team of Coordinators •Plan, organize, & attend community and organizational events
