Performs legal research and provides service on most complex legal matters. Analyzes and evaluates factual information relevant to assignments. Prepares and evaluates complex legal doc! umentation to resolve problems and close transactions. Determines necessity for attorney review and makes recommendation to attorney regarding appropriate scope of review and/or strategy. Prepares, evaluates, negotiates resolution of some complex matters. Manages litigation, monitors and challenges outside attorneys' fees; obtains approval of settlement offers. May negotiate within assigned settlement authority. Gathers and prepares discovery responses. Monitors new developments in statutory, regulatory or case law; assesses effect, makes recommendations. Oversees implementation of any changes in internal procedures. Operates independently within established guidelines and with supervision by attorneys on assigned matters outside guidelines. .
This position supports litigation attorneys in the efficient management of a large docket of litigation matters. Job duties include managing discovery projects and subpoena responses, tracking and reporting matters through th! e case management system, monitoring case schedules and filing! deadlines, performing legal research, drafting correspondence, monitoring outside counsel billing, conducting fact gathering interviews with clients and witnesses, summarizing depositions, interrogatory responses and testimony, some administrative support to in-house counsel and regular interaction with outside counsel, business clients, expert witnesses, and ediscovery support personnel.
Qualifications:
3+ years of paralegal experience in a law firm litigation department, preferably including experience with complex discovery projects.
Excellent organizational, communication and time management skills.
Candidates should have a college degree or be qualified in an American Bar Association approved curriculum and, ideally, have passed the Paralegal Advanced Competency Examination. College degree strongly preferred.
