We currently have an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled attorney to join us and handle a varied portfolio of litigation and internal investigations as well as other related responsibilities.

Specific Litigation Responsibilities:
Directly handle litigation and other formal or informal disputes, or oversee other in-house attorneys and legal staff handling such matters (in consultation with outside counsel where appropriate), including claims brought by clients, service providers, or others against Vanguard. Support or handle other litigation-related matters, including responses to subpoenas, garnishments and executions, and court orders. Direct certain internal investigations involving Vanguard, oversee other in-house attorneys and staff handling internal investigations, including management of relationships with key internal and external constituents, coordinate with and provide assistance and guidance to other corporate groups performing investigations work. Advise internal clients regarding new and existing services or initiatives undertaken by Vanguard business units and other areas. Support enterprise, divisional, and departmental risk and control initiatives. Specific Background, Experience and Education: The ideal candidate will be a business-focused, intellectually curious legal counselor who thrives when dealing with ambiguity; has a track record of commitment and significant accomplishment; and demonstrates excellent judgment, creativity, technical expertise, breadth of vision, initiative, and superior communication skills. The candidate must share the values of Vanguard as an institution, including unmatched ethical standards, teamwork, client service, work ethic, and attitude. The candidate must be skilled at successfully collaborating with, enabling, and working through others (up, down, and sideways in organizations). The candidate should possess sufficient business, financial, and legal sophistication to relate to, work with, and influence team members, in-house corporate partners, and business clients at all levels, as well as senior management, regulators, and outside counsel. The candidate should have 6-8 years of experience handling complex litigation matters and internal corporate investigations at a top-tier firm, government agency, or in-house legal department -- securities, fiduciary, or consumer protection experience preferred, but other experience considered. Law degree (J.D. or equivalent) required. Special Factors Vanguard is not offering visa sponsorship for this position.
